For fifty years, until COVID-19 hit, Dunfermline Arts Guild – LIVE Music on Sundays in Dunfermline – provided opportunities for members to enjoy live music in an intimate setting that allowed the audience to hear the music close-up and to interact with the artists. Those taking part are all professional musicians, many of whom are on the threshold of what will be glittering careers – you heard them first in Dunfermline! The disruption caused by the pandemic means that in 2021–22 we were only able to take small steps towards our normal six-concert autumn/winter series. We enjoyed a concert in November, and the 20 March visit by The Wallace Collection was a really exciting concert. We were in a different venue, and we still had to wear face coverings, but we enjoyed LIVE MUSIC!
GAIA are an award-winning violin and cello duo, comprising two of Scotland’s most distinguished chamber musicians - Katrina Lee and Alice Allen. GAIA are winners of Chamber Music Scotland's highly competitive and prestigious two-year residency, and we have been fortunate to secure a date on their tour of Scotland. Our usual venue at the Carnegie Hall Studio is currently closed, so the concert will take place in nearby Viewfield Baptist Church.
The Wallace Collection is led by John Wallace, renowned international trumpet soloist, leading arts educationalist, composer, conductor and former Principal of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. John has been honoured to receive Her Majesty’s Medal for Music for the year 2021. With a mission to promote the diverse world of brass music, The Wallace Collection aims to inspire, entertain, develop, educate and innovate. Equally at home with world premieres as well as exploring and researching the forgotten heritage of 19th century brass music, they are passionate about working with young people and in the brass band community. At this concert, you will enjoy classics by Giovanni Gabrieli and Ludwig van Beethoven, with works that deserve to be better-known by Jean-François Bellon and Auguste Mimart, plus probably the first performance in modern times of a Haydn quartet arranged for brass! Each half will end with some interesting improvisations employing conches and didjeridus as well as conventional brass. More details from the "Programme and artists" button below. Our usual venue at the Carnegie Hall Studio is currently closed, so the concert will take place in nearby Viewfield Baptist Church.
