Benjamin Shute & Anastasia Abu Bakar

​American-born violinist Benjamin Shute and Malaysian harpsichordist Anastasia Abu Bakar have each appeared internationally as concerto soloist, recitalist, ensemble director, and chamber musician, in addition to authoring various musicological publications between them. Ben currently teaches at the University of St Andrews, and Anastasia served as head of early music at Oklahoma City University.

This afternoon’s programme, performed on period instruments, juxtaposes Baroque classics with works newly composed by the performers, including the UK premiere of Ben’s ‘Song of Ascents’ as well as the second-ever performance of Anastasia’s original variations on four British folk songs.
