Heisenberg Quartet

The Heisenberg Quartet consists of principal players of Gillian Craig's St Andrews-based Heisenberg Ensemble—so named for a certain healthy unpredictability in live music-making!

About the Heisenberg Quartet

Led by Dunfermline-based American musician Benjamin Shute, the quartet brings together diverse experiences across the UK and beyond as soloists, chamber musicians, directors, teachers, and players with leading orchestras, encompassing disciplines from historically informed performance to contemporary music.

Ben Shute teaches violin, chamber music, and composition at the University of St Andrews. He has performed internationally as concerto soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, director, and leader of ensembles including the Boston Chamber Orchestra.

His compositions and other settings have been performed at the London Festival of Contemporary Church Music and by ensembles including Brandywine Baroque, Oklahoma Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, and the Boston Recorder Orchestra.

Prior to moving to Scotland he held full- and part-time university posts at US institutions including Oklahoma City University, Oklahoma Baptist University, Dickinson College, and Cairn University.

• A quartet arrangement of Give Peace in These Our Days by Jhone Angus, the 16th-century precentor of Dunfermline Abbey
